Holidays are great. I’ve had almost three weeks away from work and it’s been super. I feel like it’s the start of a new term, a new year and I’m full of enthusiasm for the next few months.

Over the next three weeks I’ll be working on a baked goods segmentation, depth interviews and focus groups for a membership organisation and I’ll be recording a my first ever conference talk – about data in fundraising.

While I was away, I read a lot of fiction, a little bit of news and one article I found particularly interesting. In the article Hannah Fry talks about exponential growth and the value of logarithmic scales. She uses the analogy of a lily pad that doubles in size every day. At the start of the month it is a tiny spec in the corner of the pond, in 30 days it covers the whole pond but, guess what, on day 20 the lily pad is still almost invisible to the naked eye. Here are two graphs (COVID related) that illustrate the value of logarithmic scales perfectly:

Maths matters and so does good communication. The article got me thinking about how I can communicate findings in simpler ways. It’s worth a read, here’s the link again:

Let’s have a conversation.

I’d love to hear what’s going on for you. Why not give me a call, send me an e-mail or fill in the form to find out how we can work together.
