Today I was up on stage at bbcon sharing the finding’s of this year’s Status of Fundraising report. This is the fifth year I’ve worked with blackbaud on the status report.
Getting up on stage was scary but, once I got started it was fine, I was lucky to have Louise and Kelly from blackbaud up there with me to add depth and experience to the findings.
The key take outs for me are:
- Charities are raising less income than in previous years BUT despite the challenging environment they appear to be consistently good at forecasting.
- Nearly everyone told us that tech enriched their work BUT only a third say they get the most out of the tech they have -and those that do get the most out of their tech tend to perform better across a whole range of metrics.
- The biggest challenge for the sector is the economy BUT another significant and growing challenge is recruiting and retaining staff.
So, times are tough but there is an opportunity to work on organisation culture and training. Louise and Kelly talked about their experiences with talking to customers and potential customers about the themes that came out of the research.
